Kitchenware
My final project from The Danish Design School was completed in June of 2008 and titled “Kitchenware”.
The kitchen in this context is regarded both as a workplace and a “conversation kitchen”, the latter indicating that people spend a significant amount of time interacting and carrying conversation in the kitchen besides cooking. With the “conversation kitchen” serving as the core and heart of the house, the kitchen has adopted a new dimension and several new demands have to be met when it comes to the items being utilized and stored in the kitchen. The items must not only serve a practical function, but also contribute to aesthetics, a sense of job satisfaction and the joy of simply residing in the room. In developing this line of products I have put great emphasis on increasing awareness in terms of taking something familiar and utilize it in new contexts. Hence I have decorated cup, jug and trencher with patterns that depict recognizable household items such as a kitchen cloth, floor cloth and dish cloth. The items are crafted in porcelain, and the saucer is sown in a cover of rubber and oilcloth. 2008 |
